2. Mission Statement

The goal in the case of the following mission statement is to downsize and move to a smaller place:

2.1 Writing your mission statement

Now that you have written down the goal, you need an action (mission) statement, or what is known as an affirmation statement to reinforce and communicate your determination to achieve your goal. This is not unlike posting a reminder on a fridge when one goes on a diet or has another objective one wants to achieve.

“I will move to a new, smaller residence that meets my needs physically, emotionally, and financially, so that I can live safely, conveniently, and independently. I wish to continue to enjoy volunteering (walking, biking, boating) and connected to the community. I will do this in six months and will offset the cost of the move with the selling my belongings.”

Or, a caregiver might write: “I will assist the individual move to a new smaller residence that meets their needs physically, emotionally, and financially, so that they can live safely, conveniently, and independently as they wish to continue to enjoy volunteering (walking, biking, boating) and remaining connected to the community. This must be done within six months and the costs will be offset with the selling of belongings.”
